As part of the Building the Education Revolution (BER), Bellevue Park State School was awarded funding to facilitate the design and construction of a new purpose built ‘Education Building’ incorporating a number of spaces, new the existing school including, Resource Centre, Teaching spaces and Music Room. Unlike previous BER projects completed by JCP, working in close partnership with an ambitious school and a progressive Contractor in the National Buildplan Group, the practice was able to deliver a standout value for money building nominated as one of 14 leading examples in Qld of the educational outcomes possible under the BER program. The project brief was to deliver a bold addition to the schools existing infrastructure. The site for the new Education Centre overlooked the school oval, affording a good northerly aspect.
This allowed the library space to maximise natural light and offer students views across the activated oval. Colour was a key element of the design. Encouraged by the School, was used to give the building a contemporary presence on site whilst considering the preexisting colour scheme. Internally colour was used to accentuate features and offer moments of joy for staff and students alike.
